I’m a huge La Seleccion and Real Madrid fan. I first got into footy because of David Beckham – as did half the world, I’m sure! But I didn’t fall in love with the sport until this summer, Euro 2008, when Spain took the world by storm. Thanks to ESPN in the US, I got to witness football at its highest level, in the way it should be played: full of dazzling runs, confident one-twos, and powerful finishing. And thanks to photos, videos, and fanfics, I got to know the players too – Nando, Sergio, Cescito, Dahveed, San Iker, Silva, Xavi, et al – even if an entire ocean and language divided us. And of course – it doesn’t hurt that they were the best-looking side either!
