Bring in the subs….

Subs

Well unless the crazy Old Man has a bad dream, it looks like the Spain reserve team will play vs Greece tomorrow. Our regular starters will be on the bench. Only Iniesta will remain from the starting 11.

Tentative line up:
Reina, Arbeloa, Juanito, Albiol, Fernando Navarro; Iniesta, De La Red, Xabi Alonso, Cesc; Sergio García and Güiza.

I am really interested to see Fernando Navarro and Sergio Garcia play. I thought they both performed well in friendlies as substitutes and have a lot of potential.

Apparently the Greeks are going to field a reserve team as well. All in all, I am expecting a win by La Furia Roja subs. What do you think?

Injury Update:

David Silva and Santi Cazorla trained for 45 minutes with the group. Carles Puyol trained separately. Both Silva and Santi participated without any problems. Puyol is still touch and go for now.

Quarter Final Rivals:

Yes the dreaded Italia. Luis Aragones claims this wasn’t his favorite choice but to win the tournament, you gotta beat everyone.

Some of you may remember the 94 World Cup in the US and the controversial 2-1 defeat to Italy in the quarter-finals. A nasty and bloody foul committed by Mauro Tassotti towards Luis Enrique left the Spanish midfielder’s nose broken in the penalty box, but with no penalty call given, Roberto Baggio would score the game winner for Italy in the last minutes.

As stated previously, we need to break the cycle and no better time than in the quarters vs Italy. España por fin~*

Honestly, from what I’ve seen so far, I’m not too worried about Italy (It’s the Dutch that I’m more worried about). Anyway, as long as Spain can penetrate through Italy’s solid defense, then the game should be in favor of us. After all, we did win them earlier this year in that friendly ;) , so hopefully, that’ll give the team confidence.

Sergio Ramos most likely will be rested. Arbeloa will play in his stead. Skeeter, I am happy about Pirlo and Gattuso missing the game, but you never know with the Italians. They are very good at clogging the midfield, catenaccio, and set plays. That said, I haven’t seen them score much from run of play and their defense is about as shaky as ours. It’s going to be an awesome game.

Well our backup team made a solid appearance and beat greece 2-1. Was a very good game by the reds. Greece got a nice first goal but Spain never looked down and just kept up teh pressure.. Could have easily been 4-1.

Now to look forwards to Italy..

Im possitive we will win this match.

I don’t think one could exactly call this reserve team’s performance solid. It’s obvious how desperate some of the players were (ahem Xabi Alonso) to make an impression on Aragones and I think that they undermined the team’s cohesion (which is understandably below par because most of these guys haven’t all been out on the pitch at the same time).

Unfortunate to see that Cesc Fabregas continues to disappoint with the national team. I was very, very impressed though with Santi Cazorla when he came on. A very gritty midfielder in the Gattuso mold, he seems, and I look forward to seeing him get some time in the Italy – Spain game.

Porchetta you say there is no place for racism yet your post suggests otherwise.

No one give a shit if you’re white, black, brown, or whatever. And for your information, Hispanics are not the same as Spanish. Hispanics come from South America, the race that was a mix of Spanish and Native Americans.

The Italian press is just as bad as the Spanish, which is just as bad as the English, and so on. For weeks leading up to the Euro the Italian press printed headlines declaring victory before the first ball was kicked. Its what sells papers.

Anyway, I will be rooting for Spain so that I can experience an all Iberian final. I wish to see Portugal win it all, but if they have to go out to someone, I would prefer it to be the Spanish.

Forca Portugal!

get a grip Porchetta.

Northern Italians descend largely from Celt-Ligurian peoples, who are actually akin to Iberians. They were then conquered by the “Holy Roman Empire” which consisted of many Etruscans themselves, thus mixing the Northern Italian community with Celt-Ligurians and Etruscans–WHO ORIGINATED FROM THE MIDDLE EAST! And the Middle East inhabitants were largely from Egypt & Mesopotamia…

don’t mess with archaeological nerds here…

Porchetta Im from valencia and im white. And who gives a shit.. Spaniards are not vehemently racist as you would portary but we also beleiv in sticks and stones not words hurting people. Who gives a shit what people call one another.. has our society become so fucking pathetic that weak individuals liek yourself cry every time somebody makes fun of your ancestors.. Look you just made a dozen racist remarks to spanish people and i dont care.. because Spain is the better team.

Right now Spain and the Dutch .. former spanish land (history lesson). Are the best teams in europe. And we will prove that in the field. And if a multi millionaire gets called a monkey by people in teh stands and he cries about it its just pathetic.. if you want .. give me millions and you can throw frickin rocks at me while calling me any slur you want.

The reason people chant these things at them is because they see it affects them.. Its not racism.. its insults. Just like insulting you clothes your mom your country your baldness. No difference. This Guilt people feel over insulting race is simply rediculous. How is insulting one thing worse than another.

GROW UP.

Im predicting 2-1 Spain

Spaniards are Iberians. Which are Caucasian.

hey javierde roque , take it easy..iam not into racial slangs anymore..talk about football and oh yea, u have the temerity to compare Spain with the Dutch??lol..Dutch has played three tough tams and have prooved themselves with classic allround game..Spain has played only minnows and that too they had to rely on an injury time hoof ball inspired goal to defeat a not so special Sweden ..let us see..
Italian footballers have turned up the heat on nervous Spanish fans. Dino Baggio, who helped to knock Spain out of the 1994 World Cup, seemed to sum up their fears when he said: “Spain has not beaten us in an official match for 88 years. It must be for a reason. Spain always play well — but Italy wins more.”

2-0 to Italia
