Spain On Top of the World!
If winning Euro 2008 wasn’t enough, FIFA today announced that the newly crowned European champions Spain have climbed to the top of the latest world rankings.
Spain is truly #1!
It is the first time since the introduction of the rankings in 1992 that Spain, who were rated fourth last month, have been listed as the world’s best team.
Let’s repeat that for anyone who doesn’t believe: Spain is the world’s BEST TEAM …
Hey, I didn’t make this up … FIFA says so … so go yell at them if you don’t believe me …
The ranking system is based on international results over the past four years with more points awarded for wins in major tournaments.
Germany, losers of Sunday’s final, climbed two places to third position behind Italy, who rose one spot despite going out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage.
Former leaders Argentina saw their nine-month spell at the top of the rankings come to an end, tumbling down to sixth place after a disappointing month that included two draws in World Cup qualifying against Ecuador and Brazil.
The 2004 European champions Greece suffered an even bigger drop, from eighth to 18th, after losing the points gained from their shock title win and suffering a group stage exit from this year’s event.
Russia’s surprise run to the semi-finals has seen them surge 13 places to 11th, their best ranking in more than ten years.
Where’s my home country, the USA? 30th … but who really cares?
It’s all about Spain …
Check out my Valencia blog on the Offside for more inane banter, focused on my beloved, Valencia CF …
Bye!

To white is right:
Apart from labelling your name as just disgusting and sub-intellectual and in fact immoral I would like to say that Spain were indeed superior.
Germany did not live up to their true potential.
Even so : “10 : 0 ” ?
Are you kidding ? Why on earth then did Spain not do it ? Typical Roman-Mediterranian exultation-based-brainlessness.
Spain were superior in midfield but relatively ineffective in terms of scoring. THINK, baby: 10 : 0 ? and then it’s only 1 : 0 ! Are you sane ?
With all the - understandable - hype, you folks may soon be in for some trouble: Your offensive power is actually fairly limited. One act of genius by Torres - combined with an awkward misunderstanding between Lahm and Lehmann - does not make an overly impressive attacking force. You guys may well have to wait another 44 years for a stunt like that.
Meanwhile : enjoy your - I emphasize - d e s e r v e d harvest !

I want to say that while I’m OVERJOYED at our recent success with winning the Euro and being ranked No.1 by FIFA, I think anyone who says that Germany and/or Italy “suck” are blind. Yes we deserved to win the Euro final, but we weren’t going to score again much less 10 in that match. Give credit and respect to the Germans and their talent and ability. The same with Italy as well. Those are two countries that have done it both, the World Cup and the Euro. They have my respect always.

I’ve been living in Spain for years, but this was the first time I really wanted them to win. They did everything it takes to win a major international tournament, including beating the Italians on penalties and not folding up in front of the Germans. But the reason I was rooting for them is that they they did it in real style, passing faster than the eye could see and always looking as though they enjoyed it. Luis Aragonés is in Turkey now, and it looks as though Vicente del Bosque may come in. He’s wise enough to know not to tamper too much with the legacy Luis has left him.

Well done to Spain, truly deserving. I won’t argue on that.
Again, Spain are on top of the world thanks to Rafael NADAL. You guys are on a roll right now.
Let’s not forget the success of Pau GASOL & Co. in Japan two years ago.
Plus Fernando ALONSO and Sergio GARCIA.
Keep it up!!!

Before the Semi-Final against Russia, Rafael Nadal was on ESPN2 and they were asking him about the upcoming Euro semi-final and Nadal lightly slammed his fist on the desk and proclaimed “They Must Win”.. Now it feels like Nadal returned the favor to the National team. They won the Euro, so he won Wimbledon! It’s definitely a good time for Spain and sports! VIVA ESPANA!!

All media saying spain absolutely deserved the trophy through out the whole tournament…has your team ever been praised by the entire media or rather the last minute penalty excuse and there you go with the infamous grande italia when they barely did a thing. You italians prefer victory over sportmanship and spectacle, us spaniards prefer to play the game with dignity and if they can pocket the tournament with jogo bonito…then better. Take notice.

white is right( what a strange , misleading, unappropriate name for a spaniard!!), first of all, spain did not waltz its way through the euros as you make it out..Spain was lucky to win in penalties against Italy, also in the normal time, italy had the two best opportunities to kill the game and spain had none. Also, againt germany, who knows what would have happened if the Germans had scored from that easy chance when Ramos messed it up in the 3rd minute, also in the 88th minute, Germany was on the verge of scoring when our Italian referee , strangely calls for a non existant foul against Germany which even confounded spanish players!!
Spain did not waltz through the tournament as u make it sound, spain had its share of luck!!If Italy would have won against Spain, it could have well been Italy´s title!!get the facts right Caballero!!

Blah, blah, blah…when Italy wins a tournament, it was always deserved, and had nothing to do with luck, just the incredible skill of the Italians. On the other hand, if Italy loses a tournament, it’s only because of the other team’s incredible luck/cheating/corrupt referees. Interesting that the result of a penalty shootout is only valid if Italy comes out as the winner, isn’t it?

I agree with Yada. Italians are so hypocritial, honestly.

how inappropriate to for a spaniard to be called white…just as akward for an italian. If italy had won, if germany….and the point is? they didnt win, Spain is the champ, all the media praises la furia roja unlike Greece that was vilified for playing antifootball, in other words they even made italy look as a pure offensive team lol

¨how inappropriate to for a spaniard to be called white…just as akward for an italian.¨¨
Nope..It is not at all awkard for an Italian, especially from the North to be cxalled a white. Yours truly is from Bergamo, natural blonde, blue eyes and is a white like many hundreds and thousands are. And oh yea, if you wanted a confirmation, just ask the Americans and Canadians how they feel about Spanish people. I often go to USA , atleast thrice a year on my business vists and i can assure you that i get treated as a real white not like a Mexican or a spanish, so i dont see anything awkard in that. La Furia Roja, for all your boastings DID NOT CREATE ANYTHING against a depleted and an ordinary Italy( i will admit that Italy was woeful), the Furia Roja strikers did not even have a sniff at the goal and were reduced to dive in a vain bid to con the referee( i can relate atleast 6 dives a piece by Vlaa and Torres), the best offense of Furia Roja and the best chances they had that day was 40 meter long ranger efforts from Senna and Silva, very offensive indeed. Also, it was Italy who came close to scoring and winning the match with efforts from Camoronesi and DiNatale not the ULTRA offensive but totally ineffective Furia Roja.

just as i know numerous blond blue eyed friends, nothing different from your land. On the other hand ive seen many gypsies lurking the streets of rome. How do americans feel about spaniards? if they confuse them with mexicans thats because of colonization and if anyone cant distinguish a country in south america from europe….that doesnt say much about the individual’s education. Of course nobody ever confuses italians cause you never left your country except to pile up trattoria’s in the US, how do americans feel towards italians? hmmmm watch the sopranos, or how about rocky, rambo yes true arian blonde looking people lol
Spain worked italy, you mention they didnt create many opportunities against them…due to the antifootball ‘all players in the box strategy’, its nearly impossible to create opportunities with such a detractive style, but what spain can do in those situations is keep the ball and let the minutes pass by. How do you feel that your national squad is known for always piling back in the box…defense, defense and defense always taking backward steps…then they score 1 goal and you can be sure the coach will immediately bring in another game disruptor midfielder in order to defend even more! And leaving moustache’s on wont change your goal drought.

BTW comparing your yearly visits to the US…i’ve lived there for 15 years and i think i have a wider scope of the american culture. If you ask me how do they feel about us…why would i care? its them who should worry about other’s thoughts while that trained chimp is still in office and spends 6 times more on weapons than public transport.

Porky porky porky…..you dull boozing witless porker, hollywood chooses Banderas as the latinlover, women drop their panties when he’s on tv quite a different story than stallone and gandolfini….who by the way share those thick greasy features you so well described before….id say it resembles gatusso, of course you dont enter the comparison since apparently you are a redheaded pale freckled face….right? must be why you never dared to post a pic.

Though i have to admit that Banderas is almost a black and the only girls who drop panties at his site are fellow Mexicans like Salma Hayek or the used, totally used goods and horse faced Griffiths!!
I have to admit that Stallone gets to play white roles while banderas gets only brown skinned spicc cunt roles..Thick nose, thick lips r the features of us spanish , even RaulGonzalez our best player looks and resembles a Tunisian, so what??We are proud of our Moor ancestory.
