Around the horn

April 1st, 2006 | By: Ian | No Comments »

It’s a busy Saturday. Man United gained ground on Chelsea, Ronaldo saved Real Madrid and Cesc — brace yourself — is injured! Let’s go around the horn.

Francesc Fabregas left Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa in the 15th minute. Arsene Wenger says he’s 40-60 for the second leg with Juventus. Guhhh!

El Classico ended in a 1-1 draw. Ronaldo evened the score for 10-man Real Madrid in the 37th minute. Relevant Spain national team information from the tie: A penalty was the only way Barcelona could beat Iker Casillas, who had several good stops including a one-on-one save on Henrik Larsson; Guti started in an attacking role for Real; Madrid’s back line included Spaniards Raul Bravo, Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Mejia, who helped keep the score at 1-1.

Spain’s offensive minded outside back Asier Del Horno had a second-half goal called back for offside as Premier League leaders Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw. Jose Mourinho disagreed, imagine that. Meanwhile, Manchester United won and is seven points back.
