Spain’s exit from the World Cup came as a shock top many. Watching the game at Fan Fest Berlin, a friend commented that Spain looked the quicker team, France fielding old, slow players who had their day back in ‘98.

France ended winning 3-1, although for much of the game both teams matched each other’s efforts. Young guns like Torres and Fabregas, unable to convert the Spanish youthful enthusiasm into a win. Once again Spain have failed to live up to their potential. The thought of an energetic Spain playing Brasil in the next round was an exciting thought. France, led by Zidane doesn’t have the same appeal, even though he did score and excellent late goal.

In some ways many teams in this World Cup (Korea, Japan, Ghana, USA, Spain etc.) do not have that ‘Big Man’ up front. Whether it be a Shearer, a Rooney or a Ronaldo, you need strong presence in the last part of the field. Maye Spain just haven’t found their guy yet. Raul is a player who is capable of scoring great goals, but is not a dominating personality. Too bad for Spain and too bad for fans who looked forward to watching the youngsters take the World by storm.

I want to visit Spain someday, and I don’t want to dampen my spirits with all this “Spaniards being racists” comments.

Almost every country will have some racist people at one time or another. Get over it.

I’m just shocked that there is a blog site dedicated to Spain’s racist attitude. I don’t know if that is very lame or what.

I translate Spanish and I love Spain; I cried; inside, when Spain got bombed and the photos of that.

People do not appreciate Spain. Here, we have all these teams, that coulda, shoulda, Holland, Argentina, etc. I’ll stop there, cause who knows, they didn’t win when they had to; but I hear all this stuff; Aragones said this…

I watched the Spain / France game, rather unbiased, though, I do have a French jersey; but that play towards the end, with Puyols and Henry, and the Basque boy Puyols, saw he got called; and I felt so bad for him; Henry with all that acting. That was a farce. I missed earlier in the game and some say, maybe Spain pulled some acting.

But the Henry/Puyols collision really wasn’t a foul or reason for a free kick in my humble opinion.

Spain was a great team, a very sportsmanlike team. I think, they got the good sport award too along with another team.

Keep it up!!! Viva España!!!

but on a serious note I really don’t understand why Spain doesn’t perform better in the big tournaments. They do have a great league and produce quality players.

Whats the view in Spain about this?

Hopefully Canada can just qualify for the next world cup…that alone would be huge for us.

spain have a good players , but a shit team i recognize it , but i prefer bad team , we dont like win the world cup like france with immigrants , look italy , all of italy origin , greece in euro cup…

i was very happy when we have won the world cup on basketball with 12 natives spanish players ( but carlos cabezas born in Spain but of uruguay parents , but don’t matter , he feel spanish and he have grandparents of spanish origin)

Yeah, right, that’s like saying that it’s racist thing to say that white American southerners in the 50s were racist against blacks. What a load of nonsense.

I’m a Spaniard by birth and I love Spanish football but I’m well aware that racism is a serious problem in the sport in Spain. I just wish more Spaniards would recognize it and work to end it instead of getting defensive and denying it’s a problem.

Racism is a problem, but it is by no means something Spain as a nation should be particularly (i.e. more than most other countries) blamed for, as seems to transpire from many of your mails. People of all nations and races coming to Spain don’t need to worry, as most people in Spain detest racism, and tend to be very warm, welcoming and accepting of other ethnicities and cultures. I’m particularly sensitive to the issue and I would denounce it if it were otherwise, despite being proud of my country.

The fact that minoritarian neonazi groups may behave like arseholes at some football matches should not be taken as representative of our attitude as a whole. Blame the football clubs that let them in, but it is definitely xenophobic, unfair and ignorant to slander Spaniards in general on that account. Sadly, all countries with no exception have more than their fair share of morons and bastards.

Come and check out our hospitality for yourselves if you don’t believe me. It is not by mere fluke that we get over 40 million visitors year in year out.

Racists sadly are everywhere but i find it funny that this american says we are “racists” when we all know americans are raised to be racists.We are “more racists” because these ignorant americans call mexicans etc who emigrate to their country “spanish people” just because they speak “spanish”(sort of)they slander n put us down calling those people “spanish” because they are racist against mexicans etc.

Me niego a hablar en inglés porque no es mi idioma , si no lo entienden estudien español que por cierto a nosotros nos obligan a entender el inglés.
No existe paises más racistas que el Reino Unido y los estados unidos de América , echen un vistazo a su historia y comprenderan de lo que les hablo, ahora dicen que España es racista y quizás en la época del descibrimiento de América se cometieron excesos propios de la civilización del momento pero nada comparable a las prácticas de los anglosajones en América , Africa, India , Arabia , Asia , Oceania , Australia , etc..
