He’s baaaaaaack

Santiago Canizares may very well make the roster for ANOTHER World Cup, according to Luis Aragones in an AP report.

Canizares has been near unbeatable between the pipes for Valencia in recent weeks and that form has led to discussion for a third goalkeeper spot behind Iker Casillas of Real Madrid and Pepe Reina of Liverpool. He was a squad member for World Cup 94, Euro 96, World Cup 98, Euro 2000 and Euro 2004. Notice one major event missing in that list?

One of the most famous sports injuries ever kept Canizares out of the 2002 World Cup. A short time before the tournament, Canizares dropped a bottle of aftershave on his foot, causing cuts and tendon damage.

Maybe we’ll see Canizares in Germany. Or maybe he’ll jab a bottle of cologne into his leg. Good luck Santiago.

Wow, that guy is like 100 years old but he still can play. One thing about keepers is that they can play forever. Will be good to see him on the team but my guess is he won’t be cleanly shaven :-)
