Notes from Kamen

June 10th, 2006 | By: Ian | 1 Comment »

Spain had its second training session in Kamen, Germany today.

The crowd in Kamen today consisted of school children having a picnic and a small group of Polish fans. So far, there have been no reports of the school children throwing flares at the Polish fans so we assume they watched the training session in peace.

Raul hurt a toe, but it doesn’t appear to be anything serious.

There’s a lot of uncertainty about what Spain’s starting line-up will be. And for that reason, players are still vying for starting spots. It’s up to Luis: will he go for strength or will he go for skill in his starting 11?

check out this article (Spanish text) for some clues:

Interestingly, Aragones left Villa and Raul out of his supposed starting 11, with Torres as the sole out-and-out striker and Joaquin and Luis Garcia presumably supporting from the wings. I don’t know if this will give the squad enough firepower, but neither Raul nor Villa has done all that much to solidify a starting spot.

I’m guessing old Luis is wishing he’d brought Moro into the squad and seen if he could whip him into form during the friendlies…
