Pepe in the mix

March 23rd, 2006 | By: Ian | No Comments »

Liverpool FC’s web site has an interview with Spain goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who Rafa Benitez calls the best goalkeeper in Spain.

Reina is a candidate to make the World Cup squad as one of three Spanish goalkeepers. In the interview, he makes several comparisons on the differences between playing in England and Spain. Among them: the press in Barcelona were more intense; players are more aggressive in the air in England.

Luis Aragones has recently said that Santiago Canizares is the top goalkeeper in the country at the present time — ahead of Iker Casillas and Reina. But could you really start him ahead of St. Iker in June?

How I’d rank Spain’s goalkeepers: 1. Iker, 2. Santiago Canizares, 3. Victor Valdes, 4. Pepe Reina, 5. Antonio Palop.
