Pernia: ‘I’m ready’

June 3rd, 2006 | By: Ian | No Comments »

Mariano Pernia is ready to make his Spain debut if necessary in Saturday’s friendly against Egypt.

Pernia is turning out to be Spain’s story of the World Cup. Only weeks after becoming a Spanish citizen, the Argentinian-born defender was called up to replace the injured Asier Del Horno. He has dedicated the tournament to his father, who missed out on a World Cup spot with Argentina.

Pernia was originally scheduled to get married during the World Cup tournament. Now, he’s representing his new home country in the greatest sporting event in the world.

I can respect that.
