Save the date — Spain-Egypt on June 3

March 15th, 2006 | By: Ian | No Comments »

One more pre-World Cup friendly has been added to the list for Spain. La Furia Roja will face Egypt on June 3 in Elche, Spain. The match comes just 11 days before Spain’s World Cup opener against Ukraine.

The 2006 friendly schedule now looks like this:
March 1 – Spain 3, Ivory Coast 2
May 27 – Spain vs. Russia
June 3 – Spain vs. Egypt

The Spanish football federation is hoping to add one more friendly to that list.

2006 has already been good to Egypt, who won the African Nations Cup. The victory earned coach Hassan Shehata a two-year contract extension, despite his squabble with top striker Mido.

Mido, now playing for Tottenham, once reportedly threw a pair of scissors at a teammate while he was at Ajax. I guess that’s more effective than a bottle of aftershave.
