Shocking news

April 19th, 2006 | By: Ian | 4 Comments »

Luis Aragones, who has already named his three goalkeepers for the World Cup, has said that if the World Cup started today, Iker Casillas would be Spain’s No. 1 choice in the net. Pepe Reina and Santiago Canizares will serve as back-ups.

Announcing Iker Casillas as your No. 1 is pretty much the equivalent of announcing Tom Cruise is the craziest man alive. It’s general knowledge and barely merits mention.

I’d like to see Tom Cruise listed as the number 4 keeper. That would be fun. Go Iker!

Iker is definitely my number one. Mr. Cool. I love Canizares and Big Pepe, but we need Iker in goal to scold his defenders and jump like a cat. Aupa Espana! I will be there for the Tunisia and Saudi games. Here’s to going all the way!

Hasn´t Casillas been the No. 1 so far, as well?

Iker is one of the world’s best goalkeepers, but he has 2 drawbacks that are really important in a short tournament as a World Cup: first, he hesitates leaving his box searching corner or foul kicks; also, he doesn’t stop penalty shots as wells as Cañizares
