Spain vs. Croatia

June 6th, 2006 | By: Ian | 6 Comments »

The final tune-up for both Spain and Croatia takes place tomorrow in Geneva, Switzerland. Lots of decisions for Luis Aragones to make. Does he start red-hot Jose Antonio Reyes? (Let’s hope so); Does he go with a more bruising center midfield combination of Marcos Senna and David Albelda or the more pass oriented attacking group of Xavi and Xabi Alonso? (The latter, please); Will Pernia get a shot on the left side? (Again, let’s hope so).

Some media notes:
- Michel Salgado is likely to return to action after sustaining a thigh injury in training last month. With the unsteady play of Sergio Ramos at right back thus far in World Cup warm-ups, Salgado’s health is now more important than anyone expected.
- A Croatia preview from The Guardian.
- Croatia did not look good at all in its previous friendly against Poland. Croatia blogger Soze’s reaction to his team’s performance: $#*&.
- How much value do you put in the result of this match?

Both of our teams have had an interesting go at these friendly games. I think this match will be the most telling for both of our teams about their readyness and focus. I hope it is a good game. I believe it will be a tie if Croatia can pull together it’s game (defense expecially). If not, Spain will dominate and tear a new a-hole in our game tactic.

Good luck to us both and lets hope no-one gets hurt.

Spain will extend the streak to 22 unbeaten… I predict a draw. If Spain can finish their chances they’ll have a good shot at winning the cup.

I expect a draw as Spain will continue to use a full bench. I can see Spain in the quarter finals as they bring a young squad with hopes of eraseing the misfortunes of the last cups. A young team, lots of speed and creativity, and intend on ball posesion. This team will not dissapoint.

Funny story I read today. There was a warm up game in the Spanish camp of the starter vs. the non-starters. The non-starters won 2:0..hmmmm.

Croatia will win tomorrow, we need to win tomorrow. We need the confidence for our group (aka Brazil). Spain will be fine even if they lose. I mean their a team where if they do poorly they can brush it off. With us being a slovak nation… not so much. Spain is a shoe in for the second round and I would even say, the quarter finals. Croatia, if we lose tomorrows match, we’ll have difficulty come June 13th and beyond. If we win I believe, we can even beat anybody even Brazil. Good luck to Spain and to echo someone elses comment, no matter what occurs lets hope no one gets suspended or even worse, gets hurt. Well for Croatia maybe our goalie, because our Second goalie is better
