Switzerland 0, Spain 2: SPAIN ARE U21 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!
La Rojita has done it! Goals by Ander Herrera (not a handball this time) and Thiago Alcántara sealed a win over a solid, but unimaginative Switzerland who spent as much time fouling Javi Martínez as they did trying to score past De Gea.
CAMPEOOOOOOOOOOONES!!! (image via rfef.es)
Adrián has been chosen as MVP of the Tournament (being Top Goalscorer with 5 goals must have helped), while Thiago got the award for MVP of the Final, not only for that stunning goal, but for his overall work.
Goalscorers unite!
Millá chose his star team: De Gea, Montoya, Botía, Domínguez, Didac, Ander Herrera, Javi Martínez, Thiago, Mata, Muniain and Adrián, and though Mata and Muniain were less involved than usual -and Adrián pulled another invisibility spell-, a great day by Javi Martínez and excellent work by Montoya, Didac, Ander Herrera and Thiago saw La Rojita move forwards with enthusiasm. Domínguez and Botía were solid, too, and De Gea was ready whenever necessary.
Switzerland had their chances, and good presence for stretches of the first half, but La Rojita was definitely the better team and a deserved winner.
¡CAMPEONES DE EUROPA, OEEEEEE!
JSYK, Spain is the first country to hold the World Cup, Euro Championship and U21 Euro title at the same time.
