I think Guti should be called up and should’ve been called up to the euros squad ahead of the likes of De la Red(not that De la Red isn’t good, but Spain had Senna/Xabi). Though i have to say Xavi,Cesc,Xabi are not really similar to Guti. They are players who are great passers of the ball, but they dictate games from much deeper positions than Guti.

Guti is more like Silva,Iniesta, but doesn’t have the pace or dribbling ability of those two. He is a great link man between the midfield and strikers. He is unbelievably smart and can more often then not pick out the most deadliest of through balls. Proven by the fact that he got 18 assists last season for Real Madrid which is an incredible record.

I think he is a lot smarter than Iniesta or Silva and a better passer than both, but he lacks the dribbling ability and explosiveness of those 2 youngsters. I wouldn’t mind having him as a sub for when the strikers are isolated, but in all honesty he is a luxury sort of player and with other great passers deeper in the midfield i think there isn’t really a need for him.

haha, now i don’t see the need for him and to start with i thought he should’ve been called up I’m pretty fickle as you can see haha

Don’t get me wrong, Raul and Guti are both very good players BUT
Who will they replace?
Raul isn’t as fast as Torres.
Can’t Finish and make runs like Villa.
Even Guiza is a better fit in this team then Raul.
But getting Raul as a backup wouldn’t be that bad ecpecially if he
has a good season.
But Guti…
He has no hope.
Xavi, Iniesta, Silva, Carzola, Fabreagas, Xavi, Xabi are all better players then him, with more stamina and speed.

My final verdict.
Raul- maybe, depending on form
Guti- NO

I would love to see Raul playing with the red jersey again but the current team seems to have such cohesiveness I’m not sure I’d mess with it at all. In some ways I feel Raul had his chance with the 2002 squad which was our best bet before this current one to win a World Cup. Maybe him as a back-up striker isn’t such a bad idea, could be interesting.

And Guti definitely deserves a crack with the National team. Whatever they do let’s hope they can win their group and get to the Mundial! Viva Espana!

Agreed defenders are sorely needed. I hope that Del Bosque takes a look at Fernan Amorebieta from Athletic, among others. Of course there’s always Ramos.

BTW, I heard Guti interviewed at the Emirates cup and he said that he was sure he was going to get a call up with Del Bosque in the mix. He said it was all about relationships. Hmmm….

Guti is the man, every player praises him and capello mentioned “he’s seen very few players with such talent” Whether number 14 has a good or bad day, the ball flows with him and his presence is noticed. The main issue is to always place a good defensive midfielder behind him to do the dirty work, capello sorted to place diarra and gago which made it more comfortable but in my opinion is a little excessive.

Del Bosque shouldn’t rearrange the team but Guti and Raul are a must, it also depends on how they play during the season, lets watch them and then state our thoughts. Raul ironically had an excellent season and was ruled out and guti of course had to compete against xavi, iniesta, fabregas…not an easy call but what is for sure is that we’ve all seen guti become the gamebreaker in the second half, why not count with him, id choose him before de la red who’s got time to develop. I wouldn’t place Raul as a starter unless villa and torres are out, i never liked guiza but he’s done a fair job, and sergio garcia….? The new players id keep would be cazorla, arbeloa, and silva. Very important that the coach eyes new defenders, marchena played the best competition of his life but i still feel a bit uncomfortable looking at our defensive line.

I say call Guti up, see how he does. But although I am the most fervent supporter of Raul, unless Villa or Torres is injured, leave him out for awhile. Del Bosque should stick with essentially the same players and the same formation though, as it suits the players and the style the country should be playing. He is a wise old man too, so I dont expect to much change. But it will be interesting to see if the supposive “big egos” of Guti and Raul, the pro Madirleno and pro Castillian Spain personalities, if they will once again clash with the rest of the Spanish players, who are mostly Catalan, Basque and Andalucian. I think it must be expressed to Raul and Guti that they are no longer the leaders of the team, and so they must be very quite if they are to be part of the team, and if they do that then they have a place, because Guiza wont do much in Turkey and Guti can be supremely more impressive then say Sergio Garcia on his day.
