Iniesta to miss Confederations Cup; Pablo of Valencia Called up
Vicente del Bosque announced a few days ago that Andrés Iniesta was called up to the squad which would travel to South Africa despite being injured in hopes that he would recover within two weeks in time to participate in the Confederations Cup.
Early this morning in Spain he met up with the rest of the national team in Madrid and underwent a scan to assess hit situation. The results were pending but things were looking bad when national team doctor Juanjo Garcia Costa said he was pessimistic about his chances of playing in the tournament.
The results have come back and they were worse than expected. The MRI scan revealed that our little playmaker has a torn muscle in his right leg and will be sidelined 6-8 weeks in order to fully recover.
This is a huge blow for us seeing as Santi Cazorla and David Silva are also nursing slight injuries leaving us with very limited options on the flanks. At this point, Albert Riera is our only winger who is 100% fit and injury-free.
Vicente del Bosque has since announced that young up-capped Valencia winger Pablo has been called up to the squad to fill the void left by Iniesta. Anyone who watches La Liga will know that young Pablo has been one of the bright notes in a not so bright season for Valencia. He’s a promising prospect with loads of pace and talent and will fit into the squad just fine.
We will miss little Iniesta without a doubt seeing as he’s definitely one of the best players in Europe right now. Manchester United and Chelsea fans know first hand the damage he can inflict single handedly on a team and its a shame we won’t get to see him hookup with fellow Barcelona teammate Xavi this summer in a tournament to remember.

Hopefully, we have Iniesta for wc2010. The world stage is where he needs to shine next!. It would be great if in South Africa, we can have Iniesta, Fabregas, Xavi and David Villa, all on the field at the same time. That would indeed be stellar!

Normally I would say Spain is the easy favorite to win this Confed Cup, but the injuries worry me… they are really not going in full strength.
